Webinar Report – 17th June 2021

The Society of Anaesthesia and Radiology held its first ever webinar on Thursday, 17 June 2021. Appreciating the importance of staying safe in the workplace, the society decided to focus on Radiation Safety in IR. We are thankful to Ana Pascoal, Mark Hampshire, Dr Ondina Bernstein and Dr Pelé Banugo for delivering four fantastic talks on the subject

The society’s first ever webinar enjoyed representation from the fields of anaesthesia, radiology and nursing, welcoming attendees from as far afield as Greece, the United States of America and Malaysia. A number of important topics were discussed: ionising regulations, how to use the principles of time, distance and shielding to minimise radiation exposure, women in radiation environments and basic facts about personal dosimetry, amongst others.

During the webinar, we asked the audience three questions:

  1. Do you wear a radiation badge?
  2. Have you read the “Local rules and scope of work” in your controlled area of work within the last year?

The results show how important sessions such as these are in educating individuals working in radiation environments.
